Bird flu scare hits Tema

Starr News is reporting that the Tema Metropolis is handling a new case of bird flu.

A number of birds have reportedly tested positive to the flu.

Veterinary Service officials suspect some poultry farmers are flouting the ban on the importation of livestock from neighboring countries. The situation could worsen in the coming days as veterinary service workers agitate for better working conditions.

Spokesperson for the aggrieved veterinary officers Emmanuel Eshun told Starr News the development is worrying.

“We have outbreaks in Tema and other areas which we are battling with.. And this is the time we have a lot of migrating birds flying into the country and we know they are also a source of the flu. In situations like this we cannot afford not to listen to those who are directly in charge of the control,” he stated.
