Biometric Voter Registration elicits positive response from Ho SSNIT Flats residents

A total of 93 eligible voters in the vicinity of the SSNIT Flats in Ho received their biometric voter’s identity cards at the end of the first day of the registration on Saturday, March 24.

However, the scanning of the relevant features of 15 others who had initiated the process could not be done at the SSNIT Flats Canteen Registration centre before the 1800 hours closing time, while a lot more in the queue could not have their turn.

The completed registration forms of those 15 people were collected for safe keeping until today, Sunday, March 25, when they were given priority attention on a ‘first –come-first –served’ basis.

The registration of two identical female twins, who had moved into the SSNIT flats recently but could not produce any of the required identity documents to prove their eligibility, had to be suspended until Sunday, to allow the party agents and registration officials to resolve the issue.

The exercise has been orderly and enthusiastically-patronised by the predominantly middle-class community.

As early as 0500 hours on Sunday morning, the Assemblyman for the Loboli Electoral Area, caused a gong-gong to be beaten urging eligible voters to go and register and by 0600 hours a sizeable number of eligible voters were waiting for the registration team to set up their equipment.

Some young people who said they have attained 18 years and came to register were also subjected to thorough questioning by the party agents and registration officials.

One of them returned this morning accompanied by her father with her ante-natal attendance card in the absence of a birth registration certificate.

The party agents and registration officials were compelled to use their discretion and compromises to resolve some challenges and discrepancies.

A party agent yesterday had to volunteer a rim of A4 papers needed for the exercise.

The Registration Officer, Mr Emmanuel Mereku, has, meanwhile, been contacting the EC officials for the full complement of documents prescribed for the registration exercise.**
