Medical laboratory services at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have been affected by the ongoing strike of the Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists.
Members of the Association claim a national policy guiding their operations has stalled though there have been several meeting with stakeholders over it.
There were prevailed upon by the National Labour Commission to hold on to the industrial action but the president of the Association told TV3’s Edward Kwabi on News @10 last week that they will strike.
On Monday, August 22, 85 members of the Association stationed at the Hospital withdrew their services to the facility. The action did not, however, affect lab services for emergency cases, TV3’s Ashanti Region correspondent says. William Evans-Nkum reports that red bands were hung at some labs of the Hospital.
A similar sight was witnessed by Onua FM‘s Kwame Kakraba at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital on Day 1 of the strike. The Haematology and Biochemistry Department had red bands greeting patrons.
Other private clinics seem to have joined in the industrial action, he added.
