Binduri(UER), March 10, GNA – An Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) for the Binduri constituency in the Upper East Region, was inaugurated at Binduri on Friday.

The committee is to create an enabling platform for parties to dialogue, mediate, prevent and resolve any political conflicts in the area as well as promote peaceful and harmonious co-existence. Its membership is made up of representatives of all the six parties, security services, religions bodies and traditional rulers. Mr Mike Fuoh, Deputy Upper East Regional Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) inaugurating the committee stressed the need for tolerance among political activists to sustain gains made in the nation’s quest for peace and stability.

He noted that democracy was a matter of choices by the people for the development of the country by the various political parties, adding that differences in ideas did not call for conflicts.

Mr Fuoh therefore, urged supporters of political parties to conduct their electioneering campaigns devoid of insults that would destabilise the area, because conflicts worsen their plight. Mr Fuseini Alhassan, Deputy Bawku Municipal Coordinating Director, was optimistic that members of the committee would discharge their obligations without any entrenched partisan positions to address issues fairly.

He noted that even though the area had not experienced any political conflicts, it was more appropriate to guard against its occurrence.

Mr Alhassan urged political party activists to learn from their leaderships who formed the committee to co-exist peacefully to ensure development of the area.

Mr Roland Azumah, Bawku Municipal Director of NCCE, said the demand for civic and democratic values required concerted efforts of the citizenry to enhance a peaceful and stable society.
