The two ethnic groups, Bimobas and Konkombas, involved in a land dispute in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District in the Northern Region, have decided to bury their hatchet and live in peace.
This follows a peace agreement facilitated by the West African Network for Peace-building (WANEP).
The two ethnic groups were engaged in violent clashes in March, leaving two persons dead and properties destroyed. There were sporadic shootings in the area, and some residents forced to flee the community.
But through a WANEP facilitated peace deal, the feuding parties also agreed that the Chief of Bunkprugu should have oversight responsibility over lands in the area.
Spokesperson for the Konkombas, Roland Mbui, told Joy News the peace building efforts will be pursued vigourously.
He said as part of the peace-building efforts, the leaders and representatives of the ethnic groups had been given one month to communicate the terms of the peace deal to their people.
Spokesperson for the Bimobas, Daniel Duut also told Joy News residents in the area will be sensitised on the need to observe the peace process.
