Bill Gates extols Anas Aremeyaw

Internationally connected and financially powerful business mogul, Bill Gates has commended ace investigative reporter and Chief Executive of Tiger Eye, saying Ghana is building institutions to better serve its citizens.

Bill Gates praised Anas Aremeyaw Anas on his twitter page dubbed ‘thegatesnotes’ after his last visit to Ghana last month.

Three areas were of concern to Gates; decrease in child mortality, increase in the use of mobile phone technology and the deepening of Ghana’s democratic credentials.

Describing the country as one strengthening democracy, the philanthropist, and founder of Microsoft noted: “Ghana is reducing inequity and increasing economic growth…Free speech, a strong judiciary, and a general free and fair election are all important aspects of this relatively new democracy”.

Deliberating on tremendous measures into ensuring the safety of children and their lives, Bill Gate said he was much excited about the country’s future.

Attributing it to Ghana’s strong immunization system in the past years, he said, the number of children dying before age five had fallen nearly in half, since 1990.

Tackling the leading causes of the world’s two biggest childhood killers, pneumonia and diarrhea Bill Gate applauded Ghana for emerging the first Africa country to introduce pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines at the same time.

He expressed satisfaction over the country’s sudden boom in technology, adding that “There are more mobile phones than the people in Ghana. In Ghana, mobile applications are being piloted to improve the quality of maternal and child care at their community health-based planning services sites.

“Pregnant women can register and receive local-language voice message that provide advice for healthy pregnancy, while community health workers use smart phones to record health services provided”.
