BIBIANI-ANHWIASO-BEKWAI MUNICIPAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE TARGETS OVER 12,000 CHILDREN IN HPV VACCINATION EXERCISE

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Health Directorate aims to capture over twelve thousand female children in the upcoming Human Papilloma Virus vaccination exercise to prevent them from cervical cancer.

Speaking with DORIS VEROME, the Municipal Disease Control Officer, she elaborated on the HPV and further identified that girls from age 9 to 14 would be vaccinated adding that the exercise will be both school and community based, we may not be able to get hundred percent coverage, however, measures are in place to ensure every child is covered, she stated.

She emphasized that, the exercise will commence from the 7th day of October to 11th(Tuesday to Saturday) and urged parents to avail their wards for the exercise.

Doris stressed that, the programme continues in clinics and hospitals across the municipality even after this campaign so other children who attains 9 years can also visit to be vaccinated.

Adding her voice, the Municipal EPI Coordinator at the Disease Control Office, ANGELINA BOATENG, disclaimed rumours that the vaccination is for family planning purpose, reiterating that it’s administered to prevent cervical cancer.
