Beware of inferior drugs – FDB

Accra, Oct. 10, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Tuesday directed all pharmacies and licensed chemical shops stocking Mezol MF Suspension containing Metronidazole and Furazolidine and Brufpa Suspension containing Ibuprofen and Paracetamol to return them to the Board, the Pharmacy Council or the importer.

The directive followed the inability by the Board to certify the safety and quality of the drugs, a statement signed by Mr B. K. Botwe, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of drugs at FDB, said.

The Board, therefore, advised the public not to patronize the products since their safety and quality could not be guaranteed noting that anyone who patronized them did so at his or her own risk. The statement said the products were manufactured by RHR Medicore Pharmaceuticals Limited of India and imported by Hovid Pharmaceuticals Limited in Ghana.

It said the FDB was doing all in its power to ensure complete withdrawal of the products from the market. 10 Oct. 06
