Betty Mould-Iddrisu to battle Portuphy for NDC chairmanship

What started as a rumour has finally been confirmed that the former Attorney General under late President Mills will be seeking to uproot current NDC chairman, Mr. Kofi Portuphy when the party goes to the polls next year to elect new national executives.

According to sources, the current first vice chairman of the party has received massive endorsements from Members of Parliament and constituency executives and foot soldiers.

Last month Ghanacrusader.com reported on the circulation of the campaign posters of Madam Betty Mould announcing her desire to contest the highest office of the opposition NDC party.

Many see Madam Iddrisu as a more capable person to reclaim power for the NDC in 2020.

However, corruption allegations regarding the payment of 51 million cedis judgement debt to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome will be a major barrier she ought to deal with as she was very instrumental in the payment.

Other names expected to contest for the top position include the General Secretary of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey among others.

Pressure has been mounting on the current executives of the biggest opposition party in the country not to seek re-election following their failure to secure victory for the party in the just ended presidential elections.

The NDC has since revealed it’s timetable for the election of new officers starting from the branch, constituency, regional and national levels respectively doing away with its infamous biometric register that is alleged to have played a part in its defeat in the 2016 election.
