Betty Mould: Al-Shabaab’s terror now in Ghanaian homes

Former Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu, says the death of Ghanaian intellectual, Professor Kofi Awoonor-Williams, in Kenya on Saturday, has brought the terror of Al-Shabaab into Ghanaian homes.

“RIP Prof. Kofi Awonoor”, she consoled on her facebook wall and bewailed: “What a way for the terror of Al Shabab to reach the homes of Ghanaians”.

A government statement said: “Professor Awoonor died from injuries sustained during an attack on the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi this morning which Somali militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for”.

The statement, signed by Ghana’s Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said: “Ghana’s High Commission in Kenya has confirmed Prof Awoonor’s untimely passing and indicated that his son who also sustained injuries in the attack, survived and is currently responding to treatment”.

Also Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the attack as “senseless”.

Expressing his condolence with the family of Prof. Awoonor and the 38 other victims, Mr. Ablakwa warned on his facebook wall that: “Terrorism anywhere remains a threat to humanity everywhere”.

“Bless your soul Prof. Kofi Awoonor & all victims of this senseless attack in Kenya”, he sumpathised.

Also, Mr. Bright Simons of policy think tank IMANI Ghana, has described the attack and killing as “heinous”.

He wrote on his wall that: “The bloodsucking monsters killed Professor Kofi Awoonor????? Well, they will have to kill all of us! Kenya will never surrender! They will find them….all those behind this heinous crime will be brought to justice if it takes a 1000 years! May God have mercy on the souls of the tragically departed…..damn!”
