Individuals have encroached upon the Berekum Kato Cemetery to erect residences and engage in various construction endeavors.
During a visit to the site, the Assembly Member for the Kato electoral area, Hon. Ofori Darkwah, vehemently condemned the sale of cemetery lands for construction purposes which has resulted in the excavation and desecration of sections of the cemetery, exposing skeletons to the open air, a circumstance he described as profoundly disturbing.
The Assembly Member accused certain traditional leaders of facilitating the sale of the cemetery lands and called for an immediate cessation of such practices to avert the wrath of the forefathers and ancestors upon the Kato township.
A unit committee member accompanying the Assembly Member on the inspection, voiced concerns regarding the encroachment of the cemetery. He urged an immediate halt to the act, stressing the distressing nature of exhuming and exposing the skeletal remains of fellow humans, who were laid to rest for eternal peace.
