Berekum East ready for assembly elections

A total of 121 candidates, made up of 110 males and 11 females would contest the District Assembly Elections on Tuesday, September 1, in the Berekum East Municipality.

In the Unit Committees elections 260 males and 45 females are vying for membership.

Mr Eric Owusu, the Berekum Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Berekum.

He said the District Assembly elections would be held at 45 electoral areas while the Unit Committee Elections would be hosted in 43 electoral areas.

Mr Owusu gave the assurance that all is set for the elections, adding that all materials and logistics, especially ballot papers, are available for the national event.

He expressed concern about the slack in enthusiasm following the cancellation of the original date, due to a court action brought against the EC.

Mr Owusu urged the electorate to turn up massively to exercise their franchise at the local level, for the good of their communities and Ghana as a whole.
