Benyiwa Doe’s Seat In Danger

As the 2004 elections draw near, there is a possibility that the three-term NDC MP for Gomoa West, Ama Benyiwa Doe may be among MPs who would lose their seat. This is because majority of the electorate at Gomoa West are disappointed at her performance.

At a fund raising ceremony to round off the annual Akwambo festival recently, the MP engaged in a bitter exchange of words with one Mr Arthur who declared his intention to contest the Gomoa West Parliamentary seat, but the timely intervention of people around prevented the worse.

The Free Press newspaper quotes sources as saying that the people of Gomoa West are prepared to unseat the MP for being inefficient and unfaithful.

According to the sources, Ama Benyiwa Doe has ruled the Gomoa West constituency for more than ten years but has failed to support them in their developmental projects. She is also alleged to have said on Radio Peace, a local Radio station based in Winneba in the Central Region that she spent about ?50 million on a school project in Gomoa Dunkwa when in fact, the building cost ?7 million, which she funded from her MPs share of the common fund.

The Free Press also says its sources have appealed to Mrs Benyiwa Doe not to obstruct the present government’s decision to develop the Gomoa towns by making bitter remarks against the government.
