Begoro chiefs fight over ‘authority’

The Begoro traditional council is demanding an apology from the chief of Ehiamankyene, Nene Nartey, for showing disrespect to the Begorohene.

The Council claims Nene Nartey refused to sit down when the Begorohene was arriving for Friday’s national farmers’ day ceremony in the area as custom demands.

The incident according to Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah, created chaos at the event with followers of the Begorohene causing damage to the royal umbrella of the Ehiamankyene.

Sources close to Nene Nartey say he refused to sit because he does not swear allegiance to the Begorohene.

But in a rebuttal, Daasebre Awuah Kotoko, the Okyeman Benkumhene rubbished the claim and urged him to accept and respect customs and traditions of the land.

“He’s not even considered as a chief yet, he’s just taking care of the community after the demise of the late chief, Nana Addo Korie.

“We’ll advise ourselves if he refuses to apologize to us as his landlords,” he fumed.
