Beggars along Nima-Mamobi Highway celebrate Valentine’s Day

Beggars along the Nima – Mamobi Highway celebrated this year’s Valentine’s Day with Dr Mustapha Ahmed, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East and Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, who shared food and chocolate among them.

Dr Ahmed said Valentine’s Day symbolises love, peace and unity throughout the world and that it was important for the poor and needy in society to participate in the celebration.

“It is part of my duties as an MP, to make the poor and needy enjoy the occasion with compassion and love,” and that “as the beggars enjoy the day, my advice to them is to be aware of their religious and cultural norms,” he said.

Dr Ahmed said in spite of the prevalence of difficulties such as divorce, domestic violence, conflicts and teenage pregnancy, Ghana was experiencing positive times, and called for volunteerism, patriotism and nationalism towards national development.

He said East Ayawaso Constituency was noted to be a community of Muslims saying “there are also Christians and many churches in the constituency”.

Dr Ahmed advised the youth in the constituency to use the Valentine’s Day celebration to promote love among their peers, instead of engaging in negative acts that could affect their development.

He called on them to reflect on the gift of love and the extent to which disharmony in relationships in the family and among friends or compatriots could have an impact on the society.
