Bees invade Anomangye in Kumasi

Bees have invaded Anomangye Pole Ase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The attacks from the animals have led many of the residents seeking medical attention.

Residents of the community say attempts to use insecticides to destroy the insects have been fiercely resisted by a landlady whose house serves as a colony for the animals.

According to them living with the unbearable situation for the past three months has been traumatic, especially for the children among them.

“ It’s no longer safe living in this community. You can’t even pass through the alleys; as soon as they see you passing, they pounce on you and many in the area have already been admitted at the hospital as a result of attacks from the bees,” an aggrieved resident told Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice.

But in reaction, the landlady, Joyce Azumah whose house serves as the holding point for the insects said the animals are friendly and pose no threat to anyone.

“What I know is that these animals they don’t just come to people like that and they were there before I came to buy this building. I have many workers in the building and none of them has ever complained of an attack by the animals and myself; I am often here and I haven’t witnessed anything like that,” she stressed.
