BECE takes off without incident in Sunyani

Sunyani, April 22, GNA – The Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) took off on Monday in the Sunyani municipality without any hindrance.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some examination centres in Sunyani, most of the candidates were seen busily writing the first papers.

At ‘TASTEC C’ examination centre at Twene Amanfo Senior High/Technical School, Mr. Alex Yeboah, supervisor, said 442 candidates of eight Junior High schools, comprising 227 boys and 228 girls sat for the English Language papers one and two and Religious Moral one and two. He could not give any reasons for seven absentee candidates. Candidates of five Junior High schools wrote the examination at ‘TASTEC B’, Mr. Charles Obeng, center supervisor, told the GNA. He said the candidates comprised 91 boys and 85 girls.

At ‘TASTEC A’ centre, Mr. Isaac Agyepong, supervisor, said six Junior High schools wrote the examination at the centre. He said 351 candidates made up of 192 boys and 159 girls wrote the first papers and there were two absentees.

Mr. Agyepong said an unofficial source indicated that absentees, a boy and a girl, had travelled outside the country. Sunyani Senior High School also hosted two examination centres namely ‘SUSEC centre A’ and SUSEC centre B’.

Mr. Afful Yeboah, supervisor of ‘SUSEC centre A’ said 325 candidates from seven Junior High schools made up of 179 boys and 146 girls sat for the examination with the centre recording two absentees, whom he said left the school after registering for the examination. At ‘SUSEC centre B’ Mr. Joseph Mintah Afari said five Junior High schools made up of 147 candidates wrote the examination. They were 83 boys and 64 girls with the centre recording two absentees all girls who were sick.
