Tarkwa (W/R) Oct. 26, GNA – Two thousand, three hundred and eighteen out of the 3,810 candidates who wrote the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year passed, representing 60.84 per cent.
Seventy-three out of the number scored aggregate six, while 456 candidates had between aggregate seven and 15.
This marked an improvement over last year’s, performance in which 57.8 per cent of the total numbers of candidates were successful Mr Daniel Cobbold, Wassa West District Examination Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), who disclosed these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tarkwa on Monday said the district ranked 39th in the country last year, adding that this year’s results would improve the position of the district in ranking.
He said the Tarkwa Western University Junior Secondary School (JSS), Tarkwa Goldfields Preparatory, Tarkwa Golden Age School, Tarkwa Islamic JSS and Aboso Glass Factory JSS obtained 100 per cent passes in the examination.
He, however, expressed regret that five schools in the district scored zero percent, adding “the GES will concentrate its efforts on these schools to enable them to improve upon their performances.
