Be wary of quacks doctors, farming communities old

Nkrankwanta (B/A), Aug. 12, GNA – Inspector George Kumah, Station Officer in-charge of Nkrankwanta police station has cautioned the community members to be wary of the increasing activities of quack and self styled medical practitioners in the farming communities. The Station Officer said the service providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme in Dormaa Municipality were enough for the people to guard against preventable deaths and the spread of communicable diseases.

Inspector Kumah was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nkrankwanta in reaction to public complaints about the sudden upsurge in the activities of quack doctors. He said the quacks allegedly engaged households and individuals and subjected innocent persons to unapproved medication, especially in farming communities including Adeemra, Zezera and Awiakrom. The reports alleged that the quack doctors claimed cure for diseases such as pile, infertility and HIV/AIDS and duped the innocent farmers of huge sums of monies.

Inspector Kumah said even though the police at Nkrankwanta had not received any official reports on the situation, they were determined to clamp down on the quacks.

He appealed to residents to report such impostors to the police, saying the activities of the self-styled doctors flouted the fundamental human rights of their clients. He called on patients in the area to seek medical care at hospitals, clinics, accredited drug stores and licensed traditional healers.
