Be transparent in poverty funds – Mogtari

Wa, Sept. 22, GNA – Mr. Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister on Tuesday inaugurated a 12-member Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of Ghana Poverty Reduction Programme with a call on all those involved in the programme to exhibit a high level of transparency and diligence.

“In that way the funds will reach the real poor in society and give credence and meaning to whatever the Government is doing to relieve the plight of the vulnerable in society.”

He explained that the formation of a regional monitoring group was a better way of instilling discipline and accountability “as most programmes in the past failed due to lack of monitoring and evaluation. Mr. Mogtari appealed for proper logistical support to the regional monitoring groups to enable them to execute their duties as expected of them.

He urged them to attend to some of the peculiar problems that hinder development in the region and report for redress. Mr. Alabira Ibrahim, monitoring and evaluation specialist of National Development Programme and Co-operation urged them to outline problems pertaining to the region. “Take into consideration the demographic and living standards of the communities you are dealing with.” 22 Sept. 04
