Be moderate in funeral expenses – Queenmother

Kayera (Ash), July 4, GNA – Nana Ama Serwaah Bonsu, Queenmother of Kayera in the Offinso District, has called on Ghanaians to be modest in their spending on funerals. She said it was ironic that the people who complained about poverty could get money to buy special cloths and throw big funeral parties.

Nana Serwaah-Bonsu was speaking at the inauguration of the Kayera Believers Association, a social club, formed by citizens of the town to serve as a catalyst for the community’s development. She asked the people to use the little money they had to support useful ventures like the education of their children.

Mr Emmanuel Okofo Asanso, assembly member for the town, advised the youth to organise themselves into co-operatives to qualify for micro-credit assistance from the government. “You should also show keen interest in communal labour. It is only when the community takes the initiative to develop that it can expect to receive support from the district assembly.” Mr Mohammed Abubakar, chairman of the association, said it was their goal to mobilise particularly the youth for the development of the community.
