Be bold and report ‘power thieves’ – Mahama

President Mahama has urged Ghanaians to be bold and report people who connect power to their homes illegally.

According to the president, the actions of such miscreants result in expensive electricity bills for the majority who pay their bills.

The president also added that it is time the nation considers an increase in the private sector involvement in energy generation in the country.

President Mahama made the remarks on Thursday during the inauguration of Ghana’s first solar energy plant in Navrongo in the Upper East Region.

The president urged Ghanaians to be conscious of the need to conserve power in their homes.

“The most unaccounted for power is electricity theft, that is those of us who steal power, we call it illegal connections.

“That accounts for a huge percentage of the power that we lose as a result of theft; and so that is one area that we need to look at…and, so it is your duty if you are paying for power to report that person who is stealing power”.
