Bawumia pledges to contribute to the building of a new Ghana

Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday pledged to prove equal to the challenge of contributing to the building of a new Ghana through modernization of the economy.
He said he saw the invitation to partner the party’s Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as a call to higher service and unique opportunity and privilege to be part of the vision to move the nation forward.
Besides it was victory for the NPP’s maturity, open-mindedness and progressiveness.
He said he would therefore serve with humility, dynamism and integrity.
Dr. Bawumia was speaking after his formal introduction to delegates at the NPP’s 16th National Congress held at the Sekondi College in the Western Region.
The main highlights of the three-day meeting were the adoption of the party’s Election Manifesto and Campaign Strategy to win the December poll.
President John Agyekum Kufuor and Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama attended.
Dr Bawumia, an Economist and Banker, put to rest any doubts about his NPP credentials, telling the delegates that “I am truly one of you.”
He said although his job and professional career did not allow him to engage in frontline politics, he was at the apex of the economic platform.
“I am proud to say, I made my modest contribution behind the scenes to the economic success story of the Government.” He promised the rank and file of the party that his doors would always remain opened and develop friendship with all.
The Vice Presidential Candidate therefore appealed to them to work together around the clock to ensure resounding victory. He expressed his gratitude to Nana Akufo-Addo for the honour of reaching out to him to serve as his running mate and the National Executive Council for the overwhelming endorsement.
Dr Bawumia said he was also grateful and humbled by the numerous expression of support from across the country. This, he noted, signalled the renewal of greater hope in the role the nation’s young people could play to turn its fortunes.
Alhaji Mahama called on the party to extend to Dr Bawumia the same level of support they gave him during his tenure.
