Bawumia not interested in NPP flagbearership position – Karbo

Former National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Karbo, has said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia does not desire to become the flagbearer of the party.

Contributing to a panel discussion programme on Oman FM on Monday, Anthony Karbo averred that the party’s 2012 vice presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia, has not nursed any interest to step into the shoes of Nana Akufo-Addo because his “focus really is to see how we can build a formidable party…”

“Dr. Bawumia currently is not considering any or harboring any intentions whatsoever to run as leader of this party,” he noted.

However, he found it desirable for any member within the party to contest the flagbearership position, hence indicating that he would be “very surprised if all those potential leaders of our party, those who want to lead this party, can tell me that national elections in this party will go on without their preferences. That will be completely irresponsible.”

To him, all the party members have their own choices and should be allowed to vouch for their potential candidates without any intimidation.

He also called critics of the party’s General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, to order, asking “who in the NPP, the scheme of things in the NPP, doesn’t know that Sir John’s sympathies were to Akufo-Addo; even in my election as National Youth Organizer?”
