Bawumia must condemn tribal bigotry in NPP – Baba Jamal

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Baba Jamal has challenged the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to be bold and speak against “ethnocentrism in the party”.

According to him, recent developments in the NPP suggest that key people in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition have less regard for people from certain regions of the country.

Speaking to StarrFMonline.com, the Akwatia MP said although he expects the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to personally comment on reports of ethnocentrism in the party, he will be disappointed if the former deputy governor of the Central Bank keeps quiet on the matter.

“Akufo-Addo must make a statement, apologise to the Northern people and tell the people he has nothing to do with it.

“And one person that I expect to make a statement is Bawumia because he is a northerner and it’s unfortunate that he led a demonstration that had placards that insulted his ancestry,” he stated.

The comments follow reports that some individuals who participated in the NPP’s ‘Yabre’ demonstration in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, last week held placards that slighted people from the Northern region.
