Bawumia: Don’t Vote For NPP Because I’m A Northerner

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2012 vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has stated that politicians who resort to the politics of divisiveness, ethnicity and sectionalism are those that have lost touch with the problems of the Ghanaian and those that have lost the argument concerning how to make life decent for the ordinary Ghanaian whether in the North, South, West or East.

Dr. Bawumia made the comments in Zangum a community in his home constituency of Walewale in the Northern Region on Thursday.

Speaking to a highly expectant crowd in Zangum, made up of the chiefs and people of the town and various others from neighboring towns who had traversed to hear the NPP Vice-Presidential candidate for themselves, Dr Bawumia said “as the time nears for the elections, it is increasingly becoming clear that there is a big distinction between the options available for the Ghanaian people. On the side of the NPP, we have maintained a clear consistent message of transformation. We have spelt out a very clear vision of where Ghana ought to be and the steps we are going to take to get us there in the shortest possible time.

On the other side of the divide, we have a ruling party, which after failing to deliver on its promises and mandate despite the huge resources available to it, have resorted to several desperate schemes to win our mandate again. Unfortunately, one of such schemes lately has been open propagation of division, segmentation and ethnicity. Though it’s regrettable and very unfortunate, the loudest message it sends is the fact that the NDC has lost the debate on the issues because only those who have lost the argument on the real issues affecting the Ghanaian people would seek to confine the people of the North and Ghana into negative politics which focuses on where one is from and other such trivialities,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that with relatively little to show for in terms of development and improvements in the lives of the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians despite the huge inflow of resources, it should not be hard to understand why the NDC would adopt divisive politics as a major campaign strategy.

The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate called on the people of Walewale and the Northern Region to vote massively for the Nana Akufo-Addo as he was the only true leader committed to ensuring that the resources of the nation are used to make life for all Ghanaians by investing into critical sectors like education, health and agriculture.

“I ask you to vote for Nana and I not because I am a northerner but because Nana and I have the vision, competence and incorruptibility necessary to solve your problems”.

Dr. Bawumia called on the people to also vote massively for the Parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the constituency, Dr. Sagre Bambangi as well as all other Parliamentary candidates of the Party in the region.
