Zebilla (U/E), Aug 18, GNA – The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, Mr Anaba Adam Imoro, has said Bawku West District had a lot of tourism potentials that could be developed to serve as additional revenue source for the district. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after touring some communities in the district, he said the area had a slave camp where slaves from the area, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali were camped before they were transported to the coast.
He said some of the slaves were also camped in hallow baobab trees and other structures that were still existing. Most of the items used in tying the slaves, Mr Imoro said, were also left over at the slave camp, adding that there were still a lot of wild animals like, elephants, lions, chimpanzees, antelopes, monkeys among others in the area.
He said the Ghana Burkina Faso border in the area could be used as a tourism point and that the assembly was planning to partner with the communities to develop more tourism potentials in the area.
Mr. Imoro appealed to other stakeholders in the tourism sector including Ministry of Tourism and non-governmental organizations to help the district assembly to develop the tourism sector.
On development projects in the district, he said the assembly would only execute projects based on the availability of funds and would strictly monitor all contractors to avoid shoddy work.
Mr Imoro said the assembly would work on roads that are not in good shape especially in areas that get cut off from the district capital and other communities after heavy rainfall. Mr. Moses Aduk-Pam, the Presiding Member for the Bawku West Assembly, appealed to the people to pay their property rates to enable the assembly to come out with more projects for them. He expressed dissatisfaction about cattle rustling in the area and said the

would form watch dog committees to tackle the issue. Mr. Aduk-Pam said the assembly had noticed that some of the youth in
the district were cultivating marijuana and warned that the assembly would
hand over anybody caught in the act to the police.
