Bawku West Assembly holds last session for the year

Zebilla, Dec 15, GNA- The Bawku West District is among 24 districts in the three northern regions to benefit from a 630 million-cedis budgetary support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

The package, dubbed District Wide Assistance Programme (DWAP), is a poverty reduction programme for three years.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Moses Abaare Appiah, said this when he addressed the district assembly at its third ordinary session at Zebilla.

He said the district’s request for DWAP assistance generated a series of meetings at the regional and national level, resulting in the development of an action plan for implementation. Mr. Appiah said it is now the turn of the assembly to approve its Annual Action Plan for 2004 and present it to DWAP for consideration as demanded by CIDA’s conditionality.

On the 2004 general elections, Mr. Appiah cautioned members of the assembly to be wary of those who would want to capitalise on the political climate to foment trouble in the district and urged them to remain united in spite of their political differences. The Presiding Member, Mr. Roy Afugu Ayariga, congratulated members for their untiring effort to chase for projects for their electoral areas.

He urged members not to fight each other for belonging to different political parties but rather show example of tolerance and peace, adding that the district’s development should be their main objective.
