Bawku Technical Institute (BTI) faces encroachment

The Bawku Technical Institute (BTI) situated between Kpaliwiaga and Kpalugu communities in the Bawku Municipality has over the years faced serious encroachment of its school land by residents.

Residents are said to be making it difficult for the school authorities and the government to initiative infrastructure development projects for academic purposes. This has become a matter of worry to the school’s authorities in their effort to build classrooms, workshops, dormitories and offices for administrative purposes.

The school, which has over 2,000 population does not have enough dormitories and staff accommodation to accommodate teachers and non teaching staff, Mr. Linus Gamou Tuli, Principal of the Institute told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku on Wednesday.

The school runs courses such as electrical technology, creative arts, mechanical engineering technology, hospitality, plumbing, fashion and designing, wood technology building and construction.

He said some workshops had been converted into classrooms for some of the courses but that was making academic work very difficult.

Mr. Tuli said old classrooms needed renovation and called on development partners and the Municipal Assembly to come to the aid of the school.

The Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Gariba Zakariah said the school’s effort to improve academic performance was being hampered because of the poor infrastructure.**
