Bawku GCB Accountant gunned down

Bawku (U/W), June 28, GNA – An accountant of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) at Bawku, Mr Yussif Yahuza, was on Saturday dawn gunned down in his house by unidentified assailants, sending shock waves throughout the municipality. The motive of the assailants were not clear, since there was no sign of robbery in the rooms, apart from his car and cellular phone that were taken from his premises.

The vehicle, an Opel Vectra with registration number BA 506 S was, however, found by police at Sabon-Geri, a suburb of Bawku near the Missiga road checkpoint where it had been abandoned. Mr Yahuza, 45, had been transferred to the Bawku branch of GCB only five months ago, and lived alone in the house, as his family was resident at Tamale.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Municipal Police commander, Chief Superintendent David Sampana, said his outfit was yet to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing.

Chief Superintendent Sampana stated that as at now the case would be treated as robbery, until clues were found to lead the police to the perpetrators.

The Police Commander said one Azura Azimbe, who claimed to be the deceased’s friend, came to the police station at about 05:30 hours last Saturday to lodge a complaint that his friend (the deceased) had been robbed and killed. He said the police quickly rushed to the scene to find the body lying in a pool of blood in his hall with wounds on his chest and back whilst four empty shells were found at the scene.

The Police commander said upon examining the body, it was detected that a pistol was fired at close-range, which penetrated through the door and hit Mr Yahuza. He said investigations would be the only way to determine the motive of the crime, and appealed to the public to volunteer information to assist the police. The body has since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition, after autopsy at the Bawku Hospital.
