Bawku drivers undergo First Aid training

Bawku (UE), July 8, GNA – Drivers in Bawku were on Friday given training on First Aid to enable them to give immediate help to injured passengers in times of accidents.

The one day training organized by the Ghana Red Cross took participants through different types of first aid, simple and compound fractures, bleeding and methods of controlling bleeding.

Mr Evans Alhassan Asaana, Municipal Red Cross Organizer, who took the participants through Cardio Resuscitation, said the process opens the air valves of the victim and improves breathing.

He explained that in doing that one had to listen to the sound of breath from the ear, feel the air and observe the victim.

Mr Asaana asked the drivers to, in times of attending to injured persons, be observant, resourceful, gentle, tactful, sympathetic, cheerful and courageous in order to achieve the targeted aim.

He urged them to practice defensive driving because it was the only way that could save lives on the road.

Mr Shaibu Taliba, Chairman of the Bawku branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), called on the drivers to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before going on the road to avoid accidents.

He urged the drivers to always establish good relationship with their passengers as that would give them confidence to drive.
