Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority leader in Ghana’s Parliament Mahama Ayariga has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), calling for swift justice.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr Ayariga described the incident as a “shooting, killing and burning” of the late Akugri, which occurred in Nangodi near Bolgatanga. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, referring to the deceased as “my late comrade.”
The MP urged law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
“I urge all to remain calm and let’s focus on the ongoing efforts of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku situation,” Ayariga said, highlighting the need for continued peacebuilding in the troubled area.
He also commended the youth of Bawku for their restraint and dedication to peace efforts in recent weeks.
“Significant progress is being made, and no one should be allowed to derail the process,” the MP emphasized.
The killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri has sparked concern in the Upper East Region, especially amidst ongoing peace initiatives aimed at ending longstanding conflict in Bawku.
Authorities are yet to make an arrest in connection with the incident.
