Bawjiase Methodist School calls for help

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Oct. 27, GNA – The Authorities of the Awutu-Bawjiase Methodist Primary and Junior Secondary School have appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help remove the public toilet on the school compound.

The Assistant head teacher of the school, Mr Addaie Ntim, who briefed newsmen on the situation on Tuesday said that, the intolerable stench of a public toilet recently constructed on the school’s compound was creating an unpleasant atmosphere and a possible health hazard for both the children and teachers of the school.

According to Mr Ntim, who later conducted the newsmen round to inspect the KVIP toilet, if a lasting solution is not found by building another toilet for the growing population of people in the area at a different place, and stop the public from using the one at the school, there could be an outbreak of epidemic.

Mr Ntim said the scent from the unhygienic toilet becomes worse when it rains, making teaching and learning very difficult. He expressed regret that several appeals to the authorities at the Winneba District Assembly and the GES District office were yet to receive attention.

Madam Mercy Essendorh, Assembly Members for the area told newsmen that the situation has been reported to the district assembly and the chief of the town but no action had been taken yet.

A spokes person for the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the GES told the GNA at Winneba that, they were aware of the existence of the public toilet at the school compound and explained that those in authorities at the office presently came to meet the situation as it is.
