Bawiesebelle traders robbed at gunpoint

More than 20 traders returning from Bawiesebelle near Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper west region were on Saturday night robbed by armed robbers believed to be of Fulani extraction.

Balu Mohammed of Tumu Radford Fm said the incident took place at about 11:30 pm when the robbers numbering three stopped the vehicle 30 minutes after it had left the market centre.

“They first fired indiscriminately to scare their victims and later ordered them to lie on the floor and took away all monies they had in their possession running into about Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis. It is also not known what has happened to motorist who avoided running over the victims while they lay on the ground and but diverted into the bush. He was chased by the robbers and all the victims heard was a gunshot”, he revealed.

One of the victims said she lost about GHC7,200 being proceeds of her things she sold at the market indicating that her colleagues who are still in shock lost more.
