Basic schools heads update leadership skills

Bolgatanga, April 22, GNA – Ninety Basic School Headteachers drawn from the Primary and Junior High schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality have undergone training in leadership skills to enable them meet challenges of the Education Reforms.

Addressing the heads Mr. Francis Amisum, Bolgatanga Municipal Education Assistant Director, said the success of the 2007 Education Reforms depended on heads as they were first-line supervisors in schools.

Mr. Amisum said the reforms posed a lot of challenges to heads as they had to manage their time tables to ensure effective use of contact hours in the entire subject area.

He said the heads needed to be innovative as supervisors to make decisions under difficult conditions that did not guarantee the delivery of quality education.

He advised them to eschew negative tendencies which militated against effective teaching and learning and rather search for alternative ways in their quest to improve the standard of education.
