Basic education to secondary level to be free – Akufo-Addo

New Abirem, July 10, GNA – The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reiterated that a Government under his Presidency would provide free education from basic to secondary school level.

“This promise will never be a political gimmick because I know what I’m talking about and how the policy would be financed,” he emphasized.

Nana Akufo-Addo was speaking at Abirem when he paid a courtesy call on Nana Amo Kyeretwie I, Chief of Abirem as part of his listening campaign tour to the Eastern Region on Friday.

The NPP presidential candidate was accompanied on his tour by Mr Boakye Agyarko, his Campaign Manager, Mr Lord Commey, Director of Operations and Eastern Regional executives of the party.

The NPP presidential candidate also said the party would ensure the rapid transformation of teacher education in the country by providing the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and motivation for teachers to enable them to deliver.

He said the next NPP Government would re-vitalize all the social interventions such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), School Feeding Programme, the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), Capitation Grant, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), and free maternal health and delivery to ensure that they operate more efficiently and effectively for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

Nana Akufo 96Addo called for unity among the rank and file of the party and hard work towards victory in 2012.

He urged the supporters of the party to turn up in their numbers to register when the Electoral Commission opens the voter’s register so that they could vote for the party come 2012.

Nana Akufo-Addo also promised to build a new society of opportunities for the youth where he would create jobs and ensure that the high rate of unemployment becomes a thing of the past.
