Accra, 25 June, GNA – Barclays Banks and World Vision on Saturday, embarked on an hour sponsored walk to raise funds to support children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in the country. The walk, which brought together workers of Barclays Bank and World Vision, numbering about 200, began at the Barclays Bank, Circle branch through the Ring Road Central, Sankara and ended at the 37 Officers MESS.
The walk, which was sponsored by the Treasury department of Barclays Bank, was meant to raise 10,000 dollars to support World Vision-Ghana to assist 24-orphaned homes across the 10 regions in the country, especially in the rural areas. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Simon Dorno, head of Treasury expressed the Bank’s commitment to support programmes aim at improving the well being of orphans and vulnerable children in the country. He said for the past years, Barclays has being supporting orphanage homes, physically challenge children, adding, and “this programmes actually falls under the “Miles Ahead Programmes” of Barclays bank He said, ” looking at the support of our staff and customers, we are way ahead to exceed our support for World Vision”.
Mr Sam Asare, National Director of World Vision, told GNA that the walk was also meant to raise the awareness that, HIV/AIDS is still a pandemic and through education it would be avoided. He said over the years, World Vision-Ghana has being providing basic education, health and HIV/AIDS education for children across the country and infrastructure development and micro financing. He said that at the moment World Vision is already sponsoring 45,000 children all over the country.
