Barber sentenced to four years for stealing

Kumasi, May 7, GNA – A 27-year-old barber has been sentenced to four years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi circuit court for causing damage and unlawful entry.

Thomas Kwadwo Asare was also fined 500,000 cedis having been convicted on both counts on his own plea. He however, pleaded not guilty to a third charge of stealing and will re-appear before the court in a month’s time.

The court ordered him to pay the fine before the adjourned date or serve an additional 12 months in default.

Deputy Superintendent of Police William Awuvey, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Anthony Berhene, a trader, returned from town on April 03 and found that his room had been broken into. To his amazement he saw Asare sleeping on his bed and covered himself with the bed sheet and his briefcase containing 2.3 million cedis was missing. Asare was handed over to the Suntreso police.
