Barber remanded for allegedly robbing policeman

A 20-year-old barber has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly robbing a policeman at gun point in the company of nine other gangsters.

Stephen Adjei, who pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery, would re-appear before court on June 12.

His accomplices were on the run.

Nana Adjoa Konadu Owusu-Banahene, Assistant State Attorney, told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that on April 30, this year, General Constable Abdulai Mohammed was returning from Wa in the Upper West Region to Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

When he got to Pampaso in Kumasi at about 0100hours, Adjei and his gang took advantage of the darkness at the place and attacked him at gun point.

Abdulai, who was then in mufti was ordered by the group led by Adjei to surrender everything on him.

In a struggle, they managed to search his pockets and seized a wallet containing GH¢27.00, his Police Appointment Card, as well as an Automated Teller Machine card.

The gangsters bolted amidst firing of gunshots leaving their victim to his fate.

General Constable Abdulai after making a report to the Central Police Station, returned to the scene in a different attire in the company of a colleague but they could not make any arrest.

Adjei, who had joined commuters on a bus to outwit the police, was arrested.**
