Barber fined for stealing mobile phone

Tema, Feb. 21, GNA – A 23-year-old barber at Lashibi who stole a Siemens mobile phone valued at 1.5 million cedis from the room of an akpeteshi seller, while the woman was having her bath, has been sentenced to two million cedis fine by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’. Eric Kofi Amponsah pleaded guilty and will go to jail for nine months in default.

Prosecuting, DSP Robert Anyusiya Aganiba told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on February 14, 2005, the complainant who sells alcoholic drinks was having her bath when she heard an unusual noise in her bedroom.

He said the complainant went to the room, met the accused who took to his heels, she raised an alarm and neighbours chased and arrested him. When he was searched on the spot it was found that he had stolen a Siemens mobile phone. He was sent to the Sakumono Police station, and after investigations, he was charged.
