Baptist Missionaries Offer Free Medical Care

Kwatire (Brong Ahafo), 7 Oct.,

A 12-member medical team from the Baptist Missionary Association in America yesterday completed a two- day free medical care for the people of Kwatire, near Sunyani and its surrounding villages. More than 500 people received treatment for various ailments during the exercise. The leader of the team, Dr. Bobby E. Bowman, told the GNA during the exercise that the team would visit the country twice in 1998 to embark on a similar programme. He said it is the duty of Christians to use their wealth to cater for the welfare of people in their communities as a practical example of Christian charity. Dr. Bowman said the team which comprises doctors, pharmacists, nurses and pastors will leave for Akuma in the Nkoranza District today to undertake another two-day exercise before leaving for home on Friday. He expressed his gratitude to the people for their hospitality and hoped that this will be extended to other people who visit the area. The team visited Kwatire and Akuma four months ago during which it treated more than 2,000 people free of charge and performed 55 surgical operations.
