Banker arrested over GH¢20,540.00 theft

A mobile banker, working with the GN-Bank in Kumasi, has been arrested over alleged theft of GH¢20,540.00 belonging to her employers.

Mariama Sumaila, 24, was on Thursday put before Kumasi Circuit Court to answer a charge of stealing and she pleaded not guilty.

She was granted a GH¢50,000.00 bail with a surety to make her next appearance on February 12.

Police Chief Inspector Hannah Acheampong told the court presided over by Mr William Boampong that the accused works with the Roman Hill branch of the bank. She collected the money from clients in February, last year, but refused to account for it.

She went into hiding but was tracked down to her Esreso hideout, arrested and handed over to the police.

Mariama, a nursing mother, in her caution statement confessed to the crime but disputed the figure, insisting that she collected GH¢8,900.00.
