Bank official in court for stealing

Accra, Oct. 19, GNA – A bank official, who allegedly stole 796.9 million cedis belonging to the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on Wednesday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra.
Eric Ayittah Nartey pleaded not guilty to stealing and the court admitted him to one billion cedis bail with two sureties with one to be justified.
He is to reappear on November 11.
The prosecution said the Branch Manager at GCB, Boundary Road, in a routine check detected some anomalies in Nartey’s transaction, following complaints by some customers about missing monies in their accounts. The prosecutor said further checks conducted revealed that 600 million cedis belonging to the customers were missing. When Nartey was confronted he admitted the theft but failed to tell management where he was keeping the monies.
The prosecution said Nartey promised to refund the money but he failed.
Nartey was therefore handed over to the Police and which detected after auditing that an additional 196,918,740 cedis was missing.
