Accra, Feb. 14, GNA – The Bank of Ghana (BoG) Ladies Association on Monday donated GH¢400 to a six-year-old girl, to undergo a Computed Tomography Scan to determine if an abscess on her upper eyelid had affected her brain and medication.

Little Margaret Gyani is on admission at the 37 Military Hospital wher= e the abscess and medical team are calling for the scan before a possible surgery. The members visited the Children’s Wards of the Police, 37 Military, Ridge Princess Marie Louise Children’s and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals in Accra to share chocolate and other confectionaries estimated at GH¢17,000= to the children to commemorate National Chocolate Day and Valentine’s Day wh= ich fell on February 14.

It was during the distribution of bags containing chocolates, drinks and biscuits to the children on admission at the hospitals and those in the out-patient department (OPD), that they were informed about the plight of Margaret.

A parent at the 37 Military hospital said 93They (BOG ladies) have really done well, not everyone would think of the children. It would motivate them for quick recovery.”

Margaret’s mother expressed gratitude for the donation. Mrs Helena Acquah-Labi, President of the Association said in collaboration with Management the ladies decided to mark the day with children in the hospitals because Valentine day was the time to show love and compassion. “Valentine should be a time of giving to show love and we want to sho= w how much we care for them,” she said.

Mrs Acquah-Labi said the event, which would be held annually, would be extended to the Regions. Mrs Esi Hammond, Public Relations Officer of BoG, said the children were chosen to be assisted because they were the country’s critical human resource and had to be shown a lot of love so that when they grow up they would show love to others.

Madam Christiana Adzam, Head of Nursing at Princess Marie-Louise Children’s Hospital said about 200 children attended the OPD daily while the wards built for 74 patients had exceeded the figure. She thanked the association for the kind gesture. GNA
