Bank clerk & ward assistant remanded for defilement

Bawku (U/E), Jan 24, GNA – A bank clerk, Sulley Ayamba, who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 15-year-old junior secondary school student and later aborted the pregnancy for her has been remanded by a Bawku circuit court.

An accomplice, Issah Awini, a ward assistant, was also charged for performing illegal abortion. Both pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Police Detective Inspector Andrews Yirenkyi told the court that the accused was a tenant in the victim’s father’s house at Pusiga.

In November of last year Sulley invited the girl into his room to watch a movie and defiled her. The girl informed Sulley in December that she had missed her menstrual period. The accused promised to terminate it but she objected to it.

He said on January 6 Sulley invited Issah into his room to perform the abortion and Issah inserted some devices into her private part and later injected her.

The girl became weak, told her uncle about it and a report was made to the police. 24 Jan 06
