Banda residents clash with contractor over farm lands

Residents of Banda in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Volta region are up in arms against a construction company there for degrading their farm lands.

According to them, the company Sky Red Construction company which is in charge of the Eastern Corridor Roads fetches sand and gravel from nearby farms, destroying crops, lands and economic trees.

The residents claim the contractor paid some monies to the chief of the area to undertake such an activity.

Dr. Jacob Gbati Najombe who is an elder and opinion leader in the community told Starr News that they had launched several complaints with the police and the contractor but their complaints were ignored.

He said the company’s activity in the area is depriving residents of their livelihood.

He served notice that they would be forced to resort to the court to get their concerns addressed.

The chief of Banda, Nana Kwasi Okumunitey dismissed claims that the company is destroying farm lands, saying “it is not true.”

Nonetheless, he assured that he will still have a meeting with the contractor to get the so called concerns of the residents addressed.
