Ban polythenes and encourage use of paper bags – Assemblyman

The Assembly member for Anloga-West in Kumasi, Mr Evans Ablordeppey, has called for bold decisions to be made in tackling the growing threat of environmental degradation in the society.

He said policy-makers should do everything to ban the use of polythene bags and products, harmful to the environment.

Mr Ablordeppey said he finds it deeply troubling, the seeming inaction in the face of the extensive devastation being caused by such non degradable products.

It is time the nation encouraged the use of paper bags and other environmentally-healthy products, he said, whiles speaking at the inauguration of washrooms built for the Oforikrom Sub-Metropolitan Office in Kumasi.

Mr Ablordeppey, who is also the Oforikrom Coordinator of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency, said sanitation is at the core of human dignity and progress.

He advised the people to take good care of the facility.
