Ban on noise making in Accra takes effect today

The ban on noise making in Accra ahead of the Homowo festival of the Ga people begins today, Monday May 8, 2017.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly which is enforcing the ban is urging residents of the capital city to obey directives governing the period of the ban.

Churches and other religious organizations are not allowed to use drums and other noise generating equipment outside their confinement during the period.

In a statement, the AMA said “Roadside evangelists are to cease their activities during this period”.

“Apart from an identifiable task force which consists of AMA personnel, the Police Service and representative from the traditional councils with tags, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis,” the statement noted.
