Bamba calls for “Jihad”

Sekondi, Aug. 7, – GNA – Alhaji Mucktar Musa Bamba, former Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs has called for a “Jihad” within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reverse the dwindling fortunes and low morale of members and sympathisers of the party.

He said though the Government is working hard to bring to the people the best in life, opponents who portray every move by the Government in negative light were hampering these efforts. Alhaji Bamba, who disclosed that he would contest the post of National Organiser of the NPP in the forthcoming party congress, was speaking to Journalists after addressing a meeting of the Western Region Executives of the party at Sekondi on Saturday.

He was not happy that in spite of the vicious campaign being waged by the main opposition party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to destroy the Government, “the present executives looked on helplessly”. The NPP executives are not doing what is expected of them to protect the party from being destroyed through the campaign of lies and insults, the former Deputy Minister said.

“It is the party that makes the Government, and not the other way round and for far too long, we have been giving our opponents too much room to operate.”

NPP now needed men and women who could match them “fire for fire and water for water”, Alhaji Bamba noted and said he can rise up to the occasion if voted as the National Organiser of the party. He said he had been a student of the Danquah-Busia tradition and well-known as a firebrand of the NPP throughout the country.

He assured the people that the NPP is still on course; they should remain loyal to the party and said if given the nod as the national organiser, victory for the party in 2008 elections would be certain. Mr. Kwadwo Afari, who is vying for the post of General Secretary of the NPP also addressed the Regional Executive meeting.

He told newsmen that as someone who was born in the liberal tradition of the NPP, he has what it takes to be a successful General Secretary of a party he had served many years during his apprenticeship.
