Former Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs Alhaji Moctar Bamba says he believes internal machinations in the ruling New Patriotic Party is responsible for the scandal that forced him out of office.
Bamba, according to the ”Evening News” newspaper is convinced that some NPP members who wanted to ”tarnish my hard won reputation” were behind the publications and eventual criticisms that forced him to resign.
At a gathering of party sympathisers and Muslims in his Wenchi constituencies where prayers were said for him, Bamba why the case took about two years to appear in the media.
He had been accused by the Ghanaian Chronicle in a five part report of fraud and illegal business dealings with an ex-NPP parliamentary candidate Raymond Akuffo.
But Bamba not for the first time insisted he is innocent but said power play within the NPP ensured that he was out. ”To be a politician one has to be courageous and prepared for some of these things.”
Bamba also said he was convinced some top members of the National Democratic Congress had played a part in his fall because they fear what he brings to bear on the NPP campaign.
”Now that I am not at the castle, there is a big gap, and the NDC will be happy. They know what I have done and can do for the NPP as the election campaign gears up everywhere”, he said.
Bamba also reiterated the point that he would contest the 2004 parliamentary elections despite growing public criticism against it.
”Although some people are trying to use ethnicity against me, I am going to sweep massive votes to retain the seat, no two ways about it.”
